Our History

Tri-County Literacy is the product of several smaller organizations coming together to better meet the needs of adults and families in Northern Cumberland, Sagadahoc, and Lincoln Counties. In May of 1970 Greater Bath and Lincoln County Literacy was founded as a non-profit serving adults in need of literacy tutoring. In 2003, the Casco Bay Literacy Chapter that served Brunswick and Freeport merged with the organization in Bath, and the new name: Tri-County Literacy was adopted. In 2004, the Read With Me Family Literacy Project, which had been operating independently in the Bath area, joined TCL.

Located at 34 Wing Farm Parkway in the Midcoast Maine Community Action (MMCA) building with United Way, TCL has two components: Literacy Volunteers tutoring for adults and Read With Me for families with young children.

TCL is an affiliate of ProLiteracy America. We are funded through United Way, other private grant sources, and donations from local businesses and individuals.

Please support Tri-County Literacy
The hardworking communities of Sagadahoc, Lincoln, and northern Cumberland Counties need your help. Too many people lack the basic literacy skills that provide the foundation for education, employment, health, and success.

Tri-County Literacy provides crucial literacy services to these communities, but we can't do it without supporters like you. Please volunteer or contribute today!
